This is the symbol for the town of Kurikka, Finland. Since this was the setting
for our first international art exposition, I wanted to honor our hosts in
a painting. The symbol was granted on September 14, 1951.The upper half shows
a moose head, derived from a local legend in which moose hunters played a
major role. The lower half shows two warrior clubs (kurikka=club). The symbols
are such a great idea and really show the individuality of each town. I wish
we had town symbols in the United States.
