The Art of Coffee Painting
The Art of Coffee Painting

We are pleased to present to you our latest Coffee Art® achievement. It is a long story, and we will give you the highlights. Last summer, we were approached by a public relations firm whose clients were interested in our Coffee Art®. These two clients happen to be Starbucks and Hershey's. The two companies were planning on producing a line of chocolates, truffles and other fine tasting morsels and they were looking for a unique and exciting way to launch their product.

We were both very excited for this opportunity and we were on board. The PR firm told us that they would be in touch. We waited and waited and soon it was near the end of December when we finally heard back. We thought that the project was dead, seeing that we did not hear back from anyone for months. But, it was back on track!

The good news is that the product was going to market, the bad news is that the product was going to market soon. We had an aggressive schedule and there were many long days/nights to meet our deadline.

The clients wanted ten large coffee paintings to exhibit in New York City for a media day in which the new product would be launched. At this media day, our Coffee Art® would be the highlight of the gallery space.

We worked furiously and we met our deadline. Our Coffee Art® was proudly displayed at the media event at Shop Studios in Manhattan.

From the JSH&A PR Firm:

"The Starbucks Chocolate event was a huge success and your artwork impressed both the media and clients (and JSH&A, of course)!  Each piece arrived in perfect condition and looked fantastic against the white gallery walls. We appreciate the time and energy you put into creating the collection."

It is great to hear that everything went perfect and that our art was so well received.

Here is a closer look at some of the paintings for this event:

Café Noir
Cafe Noir is French for 'black coffee.' Deep and rich tones capture the moment before daybreak. The steam from the coffee rises out of the the dark brew. The crisp light tones capture the bite of the brew as you savor the start of a new day.

Harvest
Harvest highlights the origins of coffee and cocoa and the farmer's connection to the harvest. They joy of a full bounty of vegetation is depicted with the movement of the farmer's path through the painting and the hint of a smile detected under the farmer's hat while dark and contrasting light tones delight the eye.

Sweet Symphony
The maestro conducts the movement of the coffee and chocolate, the cocoa beans and coffee beans in a crescendo at the finale of flavor

River of Indulgence
Indulgence captures the coffee surrounded and enveloped by chocolate. A dream of delightful sweet chocolate and roasted coffee in an endless flow.

From Bean to Cup
The simplicity of the coffee tree, the bean and the brew combine to create a complex and satisfying creation of coffee along with chocolate to tempt the weak and stir their hunger.

Lively Conversation
Lively Conversation captures the fellowship that is created around coffee and chocolate. With energy and enjoyment the engaged group converses and consumes.

Oil Painting Arts recently posted a blog about our Coffee Art:

The Art of Coffee Painting

Get thirsty when painting? Just lick the paint brush :)

Coffee has been known as a painting medium for many years now. Yet, it is still worth exploring. Its sepia effect gives a unique touch and feeling to the art. It can be used as along with other mediums. Most suitable is with watercolor because the share the same techniques. The only difference is the medium.

Although for some artists, coffee painting should be done purely with coffee only. The result is amazing! With some experiments the artist will find the richness of this interesting medium, the fun and excitement of using coffee to produce interesting hues and tones.

Andy Saur and Angel Sarkela-Saur are the examples of coffee painting artists who has succeeded in exploring this medium. They surely has taken the art of coffee to a whole new level.

Their excellent and beautiful works of art are captured in their website:Coffee Art which has been featured in publications around the world.

All the artworks are painted entirely in coffee - no additives, just 100% pure coffee. Artists have been using coffee as washes for sketches and other shading for some time, but this is one of the first times where a process is used to gain very dark hues. People ask what they do to achieve this darkness, all they can say is that it takes a special process and it is their secret formula.

Thanks Oil Painting Arts!
