This exhibition is symbolic of what takes place when
people come together over coffee. The surge of
energy felt at the start of the day “Pow!,” “Zoom!,” and “Whee!” as if you can now do anything. A potential
new love, the flirtation over a first coffee date, “With
a Wink…,” “and a Smile.” Conversation that is elaborate, energized and full of “Embellishment.” Two good friends “Dabble” in conversation, jumping from topic to topic. People coming together to work, plan or organize are “Meticulous” and pour over all the details fueled by coffee. Friends, family and loved ones
come together in conversation as their relationships “Flourish.” Others sip on coffee and ponder direction in life searching their minds and “Awaiting Fulfillment.”

'Coffee artists' show off work at Two Harbors cafe
By: Savannah Juenemann
Lake County News Chronicle
Two Harbors native Andrew Saur and his wife, Angel Sarkela-Saur, have the most obvious of descriptions for themselves – they're "coffee artists."
One look at their paintings will tell you why. You can get a up-close look at their artwork using "coffee paint" at an exhibition at the Vanilla Bean now through Aug. 22.
It's the first Two Harbors showing of the unique art in nearly 10 years as the couple has seen their creative adventure grow while living in Duluth.
People have made coffee "washes" across sketches but Andrew and Angel actually developed hues of "coffee paint, a totally new idea. They make a dark mud-like paint and add water if they want a lighter pigment.
Their creative idea has gained them attention across the world. Along with newspaper articles they have had exhibits in Milan, Athens, and Africa.
Now they have come around to a place that hasn't seen their art up close since it was shown at Heritage Days in 2002. "We've traveled a lot and met so many new people. It's the best part," Angel said.
Andrew is the son of Larry and Colleen Saur. He is a 1995 graduate of Two Harbors High School. He later went to the University of Minnesota Duluth and got a degree in graphic design. Angel is a 1995 graduate of Gilbert High School. She also went to UMD and graduated with a business degree.
The Vanilla Bean show is, appropriately enough, inspired by the medium they use – coffee.
The two are always inspired by coffee and the people and things around them. "Coffee is a universal beverage that brings people together and we hope our art does the same in our exhibits," Andrew said.
The Vanilla Bean, on Seventh Avenue (Highway 61), is open daily at 7 a.m. and until 7 p.m
